And considering he has worked with the likes of Bill Nighy, Toby Jones, Taron Egerton, Winona Ryder, Anna Chancellor, and more that’s no easy feat. But while his brooding onscreen intensity suggests a potentially reluctant interviewee, he is anything but. He is engaging, jocular, and spirited – in other words, fun. And nowhere does this reveal itself more than when he’s asked what he likes to do when he’s not working. He begins by describing how he likes riding horses – a skill he learned for one of his most recent roles playing President Abraham Lincoln’s assassin John Wilkes Booth in the forthcoming Apple TV series Manhunt. The conversation with ZOO reveals Boyle to be a man of gentle wit, who doesn’t take himself too seriously; in an industry where an open sincerity can become consumed by earnest solemnity, this is to be applauded and celebrated.
