At Lake Nojiri in the northernmost part of Nagano Prefecture, fossils of Naumann elephants have been found, and among them, enough fossilized teeth to account for around 50 elephants. At the museum, a life-sized replica of a Naumann elephant based on the fossils found here is on display, as well as a wealth of resources from the over 50 years of archeological efforts.
