@bluemtns_explore @lostmtns —The Katla ice cave is a unique cave located in the Kötlujökull glacier, which is a part of Iceland’s fourth-largest glacier, the Mýrdalsjökull glacier. Unlike the seasonal ice caves, the Katla ice cave remains accessible all year round in South Iceland.

These ice caves are formed when melting glaciers create openings in the ice. The Mýrdalsjökull glacier, covering around 590 square kilometers, conceals the feared subglacial Katla volcano, which last erupted in 1918, causing significant disruption in the area. There’s a sense of anticipation for its next eruption.
