Did you know? To beat the heat, the waxy monkey tree frog (Phyllomedusa sauvagii) can produce its own sunscreen! This amphibian, which can be found in South America’s Chaco Forest, spends much of its time sunbathing in the treetops. It cares for its skin by secreting a waxy substance that acts like a self-made sunscreen. Flexible hind-legs help it to spread this “sunscreen” onto its back, ensuring its whole body is coated with a protective layer.
