Magnum photographers covered the growing political situation in the years before the violent overthrow as well as the devastating aftermath of Pinochet's brutal reign.   Raymond @rdepardon traveled to Chile in September 1971 to photograph the first anniversary of the accession to power of Salvador Allende, the first socialist president in South America, who redistributed land to Mapuche farmers in the south of the country.  Pinochet stayed in power for 17 years, a dictatorship that saw more than 3,000 people killed or missing. Magnum photographers covered the growing political situation in the years before the violent overthrow as well as the devastating aftermath of Pinochet's brutal reign.
