The creative director will show her final collection for the house at Paris Fashion Week in September. Her successor has yet to be named. Burton has been with the brand since 1996, when she joined Lee Alexander McQueen as an intern after graduating from famed London design school Central Saint Martins. She was one of McQueen’s closest and most trusted collaborators, and in 2000 was appointed the head of womenswear design. After the tragic death in 2010 of the man who forever changed the landscape of fashion, Burton was appointed creative director. “I am so proud of everything I’ve done and of my incredible team at Alexander McQueen,” Burton said in a statement. “Above all, I want to thank Lee Alexander McQueen. He taught me so much, and I am eternally grateful to him.
