バスケットボールの神様ことマイケル・ジョーダンのルーキーシーズンにあたる1985年、記念すべき1stシグネチャーモデルAIR JORDAN 1が一般発売を迎えた。
西暦がイエス・キリストの誕生を基準に紀元前後と表現するように、スニーカー史でもAJ1の登場前後で明確な線引きができるほど、シーンに与えた影響の大きさは筆舌に尽くしがたい。
だが、AJ1の誕生前にAIR SHIPと呼ばれるバスケットボールシューズも彼を支えていた事実は、 多くの人に知られず歴史の中に埋もれてしまっている。2020年に初復刻されるまで幻のモデルとも称されていた同モデルが、新たに登場。
