Of Te Aitanga-a-Māhaki and Ngāti Porou descent, Carrington became a world canoeing champion in 2011, and was the first wāhine Māori to win an Olympic medal in 2012 at the London Olympics – a gold in the K1 200m event.  Lisa became a double medalist at the 2016 Rio Olympics for the K1 200m event and took home a bronze in the K1 500m event. In doing so, she broke another record as she became the first New Zealand woman to win multiple medals at the same Olympic games.  She continued her winning streak at her third Olympic appearance in Tokyo 2021 competed in the four boats and winning three golds, including one alongside teammate Caitlin Regal in the K2 500.  Off the water, Carrington is celebrated for her sportsmanship, humility, and dedication to her community.
