Words by @bertiegregory | In the Central African Republic, we used a military-grade thermal imaging camera to follow critically endangered forest elephants after dark. This special camera shows hot objects as white and cold objects as black. It was a brilliant tool not only for finding elephants in the pitch-black but also for revealing the network of blood vessels in their ears. Elephants shunt warm blood into their ears and then flap them to cool off. We also witnessed some fascinating elephant interaction, which is featured in the elephant episode of my new show, “Animals Up Close With Bertie Gregory,” now streaming on @disneyplus.
