Turn up your sound to sing and dance to Lahaina youth alongside members of Lahaina Grown, bringing you todayʻs #Mele4Maui - an anthem of, by, and for Lahaina. @mana_maoli was honored to team up with Lahaina Grown, @thisisirielove, and some of Mauiʻs top musicians to bring @mauihighsabers its 1st ever schoolwide assembly for any of its current students (due to the pandemic). After Lahaina youth shared manaʻo of their experiences in a small group setting over lunch with Irie Love and @he_iwi (lead vocalist of Lahaina Grown), they started off the assembly singing Lahainalunaʻs alma mater, and some shared powerful testimony of their experiences to the whole school, with a chance for the artists to respond, while showered with aloha from their peers. Others joined the artists onstage to sing, and hundreds of Maui high students joined Lahaina youth in storming the dance floor, like you see here for “Lahaina Grown” composed by Albert Napahi Dizon III, a song whose lyrics are no less timely and relevant today, then when it 1st became a hit song 18 years ago!
