The first installment of the series welcomes Ayako Saito, a scholar of feminist film theory, and focuses on “The Ticket of No Return” (1979), a beautiful masterpiece by Ulrike Ottinger, a German filmmaker known for her unique and queer visual world. In the first part of their conversation, they discuss their first encounter with Ottinger’s films, why feminist films have been reappreciated in recent years, and the “counter feminism” that Ottinger has tried to articulate in her works.
