When blood covers civilians - and especially kids, young people - it all gets even more horrible and harder to bear. There can never be a justification for brutality and violence and this got to be true on both sides. Where do we look for peace? How do we break this circle of grief, terror and revenge? I don’t know the answer but I know it’s peace we need to talk about, rather than calling for more violence or standing with one side or another. Peace, even when it seems impossible. Segregation and terrorism are two faces of a same medal. All the innocent people who have died these days won’t be vendicated with more innocent deaths; in the same way as their death didn’t vendicate those who died before. I’ve been thinking a lot these days about saying/posting something, trying to find the right words and an appropriate way of communicating my feelings. I’ve decided not to post any images - any photo choice would be one-sided - but just a silent black square, because sorrow has no political identity or color. I’m always grateful to be in a country in peace, but these tragedies remind us we shouldn’t take anything for granted. And that destruction always calls for more destruction.
