Screen time - it's always a controversial topic. Although it r ally should be each to their own. But here's where we're currently at with it after banning it from Alfie's life for a few days as an experiment to see if it made a difference.

Back in June, I posted a reel about our decision to ban Alf from all screen time for a few dags. So here's how it went and here's what we've done since! I think this one of the most requested updates so sorry for the delay! 📺

Screentime definitely has a place - let's be honest we're busy enough trying to juggle without needing any more judgement. Screentime taught Alf so many words, numbers, and even the alphabet.

So why did we ban it?
Honestly, he became totally addicted to it. He wasn't really wanting to play anymore and was always wanting his iPad. Plus, it went from him watching educational and fun shows like Super Simple Songs, Bounce Patrol or Ms Rachel to just WEIRD videos of adult hands playing with toys and real monkeys dressed as children.

✨ How did it go?
He adapted to life without it quicker than we anticipated. His sleep improved immediately - be went from waking up at 5am to 7/8am! We got to spend more quality time with him! We got to play, read and spend quality time together.

✨ How's life been since?
He's allowed his iPad on long car journeys and at the weekend (he likes an educational game like Alphablocks and NumberBlocks). We have programs downloaded he's allowed to watch so there is strictly no scrolling! But mainly, we watch movies together - I love the Julia Donaldson ones on iPlayer. We also LOVE the Toniebox so much! We've just got him the headphones for it too 🎧

If he's had too much screen time we notice he gets addicted again. We had to ban Alexa devices because he started waking up early wanting to ask Alexa animal noises. But his sleep and behaviour isn't impacted by the TV.

All in all, it was much easier to manage than we thought it would be! It's easy when we decide he's done too much. We just say no more, and he accepts it and plays.

But ultimately, look I always think there's a space for screentime when we need to get stuff done.
