Our director, Michael Govan, had a close relationship with the late Robert Irwin. While at LACMA's helm, he’s commissioned installations by Irwin, and as the director of the @diaartfoundation before that, he hired the artist to help design Dia:Beacon. Govan said that "being with Irwin as he watched and questioned everything around him" allowed him to learn "that a work of art succeeds when it challenges our perceptions."
