Asama as seen from Mt. Kurofu (Komoro City) Mt. Kurofu straddles the border of Komoro City in Nagano and Tsumagoi Village in Gunma. It was once the edge of the volcanic crater but partially collapsed after an eruption around 30,000 years ago. It is the tallest peak on the outer ring of Mt. Asama, and offers excellent views of the volcano, especially in late autumn when its rugged surface has been dusted with snow. *Mt. Asama is an active volcano, and access to Mt. Kurofu may be restricted due to volcanic activity. Please check the current Volcanic Alert Level of Mt. Asama before visiting.
