メラニー・サイクスさんのインスタグラム写真 - (メラニー・サイクスInstagram)「This is me at the women's equality party yesterday in Sheffield, talking about the patriarchal thinking that drives the medical system that negatively affects women's lives. It wasn't easy for me,no time to see the space etc and last minute asks. I was also frustrated that our time was almost halved due to overrun. A lot of the narrative was talking about the problem, but not really discussing the solutions which for me is self-awareness and female empowerment. I don't want to battle against the system. I just want us to change it ourselves. The power is within us to advocate for ourselves, as for what we need and adopt self-awareness and take that to the doctor instead of believing everything that he said to us. if it does not ring true for you, it is not true. I've always asked my doctors many questions. I've also educated my doctors at times with my actual lived experience that is gold dust that cannot be found in a textbook. A good doctor learns from these stories. I have always felt I don't fit into a female or masculine model anyway, I'm very much my own person with my own specific needs and I've never had trouble asking for what I need when it comes to my health and I've been able to ignore the bullshit that gets spouted. I want to empower women to do the same. I found out yesterday that, although the NHS is a patriarchal construct 3/4 of its workforce is women. it will take them to change things internally. We don't have to be victims anymore because we can be in charge of ourselves. We can do that in all areas of our lives using self belief, self-awareness and understanding we've been in a system that is designed to make us feel like we disordered merely because we are female. We are apparently too sensitive, too emotional, but we are all sensitive beings including men and it is those things that make us equal as humans. You cannot slap, gender on feelings or 'symptoms'. #equality #equalitymatters」11月5日 18時42分 - msmelaniesykes
