タニヤ・バーさんのインスタグラム写真 - (タニヤ・バーInstagram)「Today, when the lives of so many people all around the world are being devastated by violence, persecution and conflict, the sentiments held within this book seem more important than ever. ‘What You Need To Be Warm’ is a poem by my fellow UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, Neil Gaiman. It is about our right to feel safe, whoever we are and wherever we are from, and it is about holding out a hand to welcome those who find themselves far from home. I love reading to Sage and building a library of books that will help shape the way he sees and interacts with the world. This poem is so beautiful - it is quiet and gentle but also enormously powerful - and it is familiar to me, as I have had the honour to be part of its evolution over the past few years. In 2019, @neilhimself asked his Twitter followers: What reminds you of warmth? Thousands of responses later, Neil began to weave replies from across the world into a poem that was knitted into a giant solidarity scarf to raise awareness and funds for @refugees Winter Appeal. I took that scarf with me to Azraq refugee camp in 2020 to show it to the Syrian women who had designed the rose motif around its border. After reading them the poem, they smiled and cried and said "his words hold what is in our hearts”. I think of Samira, Itidal, Kholoud and Samaher often, as well as so many people in the world right now living in unthinkable conditions. Particularly as the days get darker and colder and the stories on the news worsen. I hold Sage closer and whisper to him how lucky we are. What You Need To Be Warm has evolved from a twitter conversation, into a solidarity scarf, to an animated film, and now into this wonderful hard back book.
