Would we recognize ourselves unbroken?

Shot on 16 mm film in India and Portugal, “Two Refusals (Would We Recognize Ourselves Unbroken?)” is a new two-channel video created by Suneil Sanzgiri. It reimagines histories of transnational solidarity and interventions against the Portuguese empire. Combining original interviews and a script written by poet Sham-e-Ali Nayeem (@sham_e_ali_nayeem) with CGI animation, altered archival footage, and excerpts from anti-colonial cinema, Sanzgiri recounts stories of resistance and their ongoing relationship to the present. The film’s score was composed by Amirtha Kidambi (@kidominator) and Booker Stardrum (@bookerstardrum).
