I was lucky enough to have had the opportunity to tell him so in 2017 when I, by some miracle, sat next to him at the final performance of the revival of “Sunday in the Park with George” in NY. I told him “Sweeney Todd” ignited my desire to be on the boards and that his music helped me survive my childhood. He beamed, patted my hand, and said, “Thanks, kid.” I had the pleasure of seeing Dame Angela Lansbury as Mrs. Lovett and George Hearn as Sweeney at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion when I was seven. Yes, seven. My sister and I heard “A Little Priest” on The Dr. Demento Show and were hooked. My sister bought the album, and we memorized the lyrics to ALL of the songs and begged our father to get tickets when it came to town. It feels like a full circle moment seeing the revival, especially after participating in @the_writers_lab - like I’m beginning a new chapter of my life.
