Conceived while a homesick photography student in Italy, Rodero returned to Spain aiming to immortalize its hidden Catholic traditions, navigating to remote towns and villages in what became a 15-year-long project published in 1989.⁠ ⁠ The series of black and white images exudes a theatrical quality bordering on the surreal, from macabre portraits of masked figures to depictions of mass rituals emitting a powerful hysteria.
