Christie’s London is delighted to present a wide and diverse collection of material in our upcoming ‘Valuable Books and Manuscripts’ auction this December.🔭⁣

Join James Hyslop, Head of Science and Natural History, as he showcases two extraordinary scientific instruments that are featured in the sale: a medieval horary quadrant from 1311, an early ‘computer’ for use in calculating the date of Easter and solving the time of day by unequal hours, and one of the rarest microscopes by Antoni Van Leeuwenhoek (1632–1723) - a device capable of achieving an approximate magnification of 285x.⁣
