On this day 69 years ago, Good Ol' Charlotte Braun debuted!
The very opinionated and loud minor character, Charlotte Braun, was intended to be the foil to the wishy-washy Charlie Brown.
However, her time in the strip was short-lived, as many fans were not thrilled with the inclusion of the loudmouthed counterpart.
🪓 FUN FACT! One Peanuts fan, Elizabeth Swaim, was so bothered by Charlotte Braun that she mailed a letter to Charles Schulz expressing her thoughts. Schulz wrote a personal reply on January 5, 1955, with a creative illustration, and that letter (known as "The Ax") is now a part of the Library of Congress archives. Swipe to view →
Charlotte Braun made her final appearance on February 1, 1955, with her boisterous personality to be embraced by Lucy.
This Peanuts comic strip was first published on November 30, 1954.
