This is the first ever high resolution 3-D image of the tiny Dinkinesh asteroid system. Published today BY NASA. Made by May/Manzoni from data collected by the LUCY spacecraft as it recently flew past Dinkinesh at 10,000 miles per hour. The two images used to make this stereo were captured only a few seconds apart, as the spacecraft zoomed by, on its journey to visit the Trojans - bunch of asteroids way out in the orbit of Jupiter. Notice that only in the stereo version is it apparent that the smaller body - now named Selam - itself made up of two smaller asteroids - a contact binary’. This was all an amazing revelation when the data came in. For the full story visit the NASA website.
