Several hiking trails — including part of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail — lead through a beautiful hardwood forest to narrow beaches along the Potomac tidewaters.

The area’s outstanding natural attributes are equally matched by its archeological resources and history, including Native American sites, remnants from the Civil War, a historic homestead and dozens of World War I-era sunken ships, which now lie in Mallows Bay.
