Art has the power to wash away conventions.

This is the case with works by Meekyoung Shin, who uses her signature medium of soap to create monuments that dissolve over time. In this way, Shin subverts the idea that all pieces of art should be permanent or everlasting.

For “The Shape of Time,” @meekyshin was heavily inspired by 1926 exterior designs for the PMA that referenced the theme of, “Eastern Civilization.” Those designs never materialized, and close to 100 years later, her soap sculptures pay homage to major figures: the biblical prophet Isiah; a personification of India; and Xerxes, a king from ancient Persia.
