Okay, so this photo's breaking all sorts of IG rules. First of all, it's from a digital point & shoot. Second, I didn't take it. Third, it's not so instant. BUT I DON'T CARE. My dad will be 65 in February. He has busted-up knees, dangerously high cholesterol, and he worked a high-stress desk job for forty years. Nevertheless, two weeks ago he ventured five hours north of Toronto, trekked into the bush in sub-zero weather, and camped and wandered for two days with no tent. In the snow. By himself. Oh, and he snapped this uncharacteristic self-portrait shortly before his camera froze. Like, from the cold. My mom's take on all this? "If a coyote eats him, at least he'll go the way he always wanted." And she was not kidding. I hope every day that I inherited even a tenth of my dad's crazy spirit.
