@rhurley: "here's a little story of how @hurley originated..... In the late 1970s my father (@bhurley99) was shaping surfboards out of Huntington Beach, CA. He made them lighter and faster. They weren't the most durable, but they were great for competing. 'Rabbit' (a world champion surfer out of Australia) took notice. Their collaborative shaper + athlete relationship was more influential than just equipment. Rabbit drew positive inspiration from local kids, and shared this idea with @bhurley99. Little did he know, the philosophical seed of inclusion and youth he planted would later blossom into the founding principles of @hurley. ___ "While maintaining his passion for surfboards, @bhurley99 brought the brand Billabong to the States and beyond. After growing that business for some time, @bhurley99 decided to give Billabong back. Founded on the ideals of innovation, inclusion and being a microphone for youth, @hurley the brand was born in 1999. A very tangible manifestation of the inspiration from Rabbit's example of the past, and a foreshadowing of the future of youth culture. Kids were just on the verge of being incredibly connected.
