Middle Geyser Basin, Yellowstone NP,WY. Photo by @peteressick. In 1871 the Hayden Expedition from the US Geological Survey came to Yellowstone. In the group was the photographer William Henry Jackson and the painter Thomas Moran. Jackson took a photograph near this spot which was then called Hells Half Acre. Upon return, the photographs and paintings were shown to Congress and helped pass legislation to create Yellowstone NP.
