How many people does it take to pull a 4x4 out of sugar sand in a remote wadi in southern Jordan?
Five.
An amazingly kind bedouin man who by extreme levels of serendipity (and luck) happened to have been in his tent just 2 kilometers walk away), his son, a friend, Zeek Khdeer, me, two 4x4 pickup trucks and four hours of digging out by hand. While waiting for his son to arrive I asked the 55 year-old bedouin how many times he's been stuck in the desert. He said with a smile, "many times". I then asked him why does he live in this most beautiful yet extremely remote and difficult to traverse wadi (valley)? He replied "I move with the grass". Seems this wadi outside Wadi Rum wants me to stay, this being the third attempt for the wadi spirits not wanting to let me go.
