Sailing on the Sun Peddler in #BenoaHarbour in #Bali. In the last leg of their overland journey from London to Australia, LP founders Tony and Maureen Wheeler travelled by train and bus from Jakarta through #Java and onto #Bali. By the time they arrived in #Indonesia, money was running low and the original plan was to go to Australia via Portuguese Timor. One morning in a cafe in #Kuta, they overheard the skipper of a yacht out of Auckland, New Zealand who needed two more people before sailing south. Within minutes, they were a part of the crew.

It took sixteen days instead of the estimated six to arrive in Australia. At one point they had to eat tins of food that had been in the bilge since the ship left New Zealand three years previously! The labels had been washed off so they weren’t ever sure what it would turn out to be.
