Photo by @peteressick. Nevada has the Burning Man, but now South Dakota has the Burning Beetle! Or more correctly the burning mountain pine beetle. The forests of the Black Hills have been hit hard by the beetle and a local group in Custer, SD built this 26-foot-long beetle out of beetlekill blue Ponderosa Pine and OSB plywood and set it a flame at dusk on Jan. 18.
