Dust storm, Lovelock, Nevada. Photo by @peteressick. With the recent drought in the American West, some places are starting to resemble the Dust Bowl days of the Depression. Lovelock, Nevada is one of those places that, in my opinion, might be a harbinger of the future of many towns and cities in the west. Built on the model of using irrigated water from a nearby dammed river in the desert, things work out fine if there is a heavy snow pack in the headwaters. This year, the snow fall has been lacking. It is going to be a dry summer for the farmers in Lovelock unless there are some big storms in March.
