Japan’s Nuclear Power Plant Belt: 82 year old retiree Morio Osaka poses during the snow cleaning up in Sai Village in Shimokita Peninsula, the most northern part of Japan’s main island Honshu. He frightingly said he could encounter bears, even around his home. Next to his village, there is a nuclear reactor and in general in the peninsula, there are many nuclear power plant related facilities. The areas of Japan’s nuclear power plant belt are all located in the countryside. In the reactor belt and nearby, we can see the real problems of current Japan – the drastic depopulation of the countryside and the shrinking of nearly all industries. In these environments, the Japanese local authorities and people still support for nuclear reactors somehow, although the majority of Japan oppose. Now, due to the experience of Fukushima’s 2011 disaster, Japan’s more than 50 reactors are all suspended or closed, but the Japanese government seemingly wants to resume it. #nuclear_power_plant_belt #genpatsu #countryside #portrait #inaka #winter #depopulation #shimokita_peninsula #aomori #old_man #retiree
