Rwandans sing and pray inside the Sainte-Famille catholic church in Kigali for a recent Sunday mass. During the Rwandan genocide of 1994 thousands took refuge in the church but very few survived the massacre. Witnesses said that the priest in charge of the church armed himself and helped Hutu militias take people away to be murdered. This month, Rwanda is observing the 20th commemoration of the genocide which left nearly a million slaughtered in 100 days. iPhone photo by @dguttenfelder who covered the Rwandan story two decades ago and returned for the first time this past week on assignment for National Geographic.
