This scenic vista was historically used as a natural corral for live stock due to the shear cliffs on all sides of the peninsula in the sky with a limited exit. As legend has it, a group of cowboys corralled a heard of wild horses here in the 19th century and failed to return to collect the animals leaving them to die of thirst within view of the Colorado river some 2,000 feet below.
