AFGHANISTAN : Afghan villagers sit under a net in a field on the outskirts of Mazar-i-Sharif on April 25, 2014, as they try to catch quail for fighting purposes. Quail fighting, a centuries old tradition, was banned under the rule of the Taliban at the end of of the last decade but has since seen a resurgence as the activity is tolerated. The winner of the quail matches is declared after one of the two same sized male birds pitted against each other runs away from the confrontation. The matches last for a couple of minutes but the bets can range from five US dollars to sums into the thousands of dollars.
