It's #Plantain, and it tastes a bit like #banana, minus the sweetness, and it's cooked straight into the fire. The #Tsimane people consume a lot of it. This community, living deep in the #Amazon forest in #Bolivia, used to be full-time #hunter-gatherers, relying entirely on foraging and hunting with bow and arrow. About 300 years ago, missionaries introduced slash-and-burn #agriculture and the Tsimane started to grow plantain and corn. They are now part-time hunter-gatherers, relying on such staple food. This is part two of my @ナショナルジオグラフィック story on the #Evolution of #diet - how we are what we ate - coming out soon. #latergram @thephotosociety
