Remembering former Guggenheim Director Thomas Messer, who passed away one year ago today at the age of 93. During his tenure over 27 years, Messer worked to greatly expand the museum’s collection and exhibition programs. He was responsible for the Guggenheim Foundation’s acquisition of the Thannhauser Collection, assembled by Justin K. Thannhauser, including Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, and early modern works, as well as the the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice (@guggenheim_venice).
