This 1977 jersey was worn by one of the world’s greatest soccer stars: Edson Arantes do Nascimento—better known as Pelé. Born in Brazil in 1940, he joined FC Santos at age 15 and led the Brazilian national team to #WorldCup victories in 1958, 1962, and 1970. When Pelé joined the New York Cosmos in 1974, he helped introduce #soccer into the American mainstream. It's now on display in our "American Stories" exhibition.
