#tbt to my LAST ankle surgery. 1 year ago from today- 1 week out from competing at Weightlifting Nationals. This was my 5th ankle surgery i've had over the last 10 years, all for previous issues from gymnastics, this time being bone spurs and a fractured fragment floating in the joint. I found a more aggressive surgeon that shaved back/shortened my tibia to prevent the problem from reoccurring. Before surgery, I could not physical squat to parallel, and even then it was painful bone on bone grinding. It was a long recovery over 4 months, and right when I came back I fractured my hamate bone in my hand. I started over with lifting and training in late 2013, switched to fully weightlifting in February, and in May qualified to Nationals. #idowhatiwant Anything can be done if you are willing to work for what you want the most.
