Ulysses S. Grant used this camp chair during the Civil War. You can read the memoirs he wrote at the end of his life for free online through the Gutenberg project. Author Mark Twain judged Grant's to be the best military memoirs since Julius Caesar's.

129 years ago today, Grant died from throat cancer. He had been a US president and Civil War general.
