Sydney Johnson and Khary Anderson, interns in the museum’s Office of Programs and Strategic Initiatives, present an interactive theater program called "Freedom School’s in Session!" The original performance uses the lessons created by teachers Denise Jackson and Fred Miller during the Freedom Summer Project of 1964 to teach visitors about the civil rights movement that swept the country 50 years ago. The backdrop for this play is the historic Woolworth’s Lunch Counter—where, in 1960, four African American college students sat down to challenge racial inequality in the South—on display in the museum. #freedomsummer #civilrights #museumtheater
