Mammals come in many different shapes and sizes. The largest mammals is the the blue whale @ 33 meters (108ft) to the smallest, the bumblebee bat 30-40mm (1.2-1.6 in). They include the largest and some of the most intelligent such as elephants and primates. The group has four things in common , they are warm blooded vertebrates, they are covered in Skin, Fur or Hair, they breathe using lungs, they give birth to live young, ( except for monotremes). They suckle their young on mother's milk. In addition they have two other features that are unique to mammals; they have three middle ear bones and a neocortex, a region of the brain which regulates body temperature and the circulatory system. I photographed the giraffe and orangutan skeletons at the #OxfordNaturalhistoryMuseum for an article about #Darwin and his theory. @thephotosociety @institureartist @Robert Clark
