Strong, brave women inspire me. Women who stand up for what they believe in & use their voice for helping & empowering others. With the authors permission, I am reposting her strong, brave & inspiring words. - SWx 'Sometimes I get sad. So sad that I just completely shut down. I stare blankly ahead and in that moment I don't exist. Sometimes it hits me out of nowhere. All of a sudden, this overwhelming sadness rushes over me. I get discouraged and I get upset and I feel hopeless, sad and hurt. And once again I feel absolutely numb to the World. My name is Juanita and I live each day with mental illness. Some days I control my mind, other days it controls me. Today is #worldmentalhealthday which concludes #mentalhealthweek. But like any other awareness campaign, my hope is that mental illness becomes a topic as a community and larger society we are able to discuss freely and openly. It is a flaw in chemistry, not the character of a person and I'm so very passionate about using my voice and experience to make that clear. Mental illness isn't a lifestyle choice, there's nothing more terrifying than battling your own mind each day and expending ridiculous amounts of energy merely to feel normal and accepted. When you replace the 'i' with 'we' - illness becomes wellness. What can you do to make somebody's journey that little more comfortable? It's not about assuming responsibility for them, it's about opening your heart and most of all your mind. Reaching out your hand to help them back up to walk beside you.' - @juanita_powell
