I love the Nike Women's Half Marathon for many reasons, but perhaps the biggest is this: it is not about a PR or cute pictures or even that coveted little blue box at the finish. To me, it is a celebration of female friendships. The silent connection we share. Shared pain. Shared progress. Deep conversations on long runs that only lag when we are out of breath.
We are runners. We are friends. We are women. I am continuously in awe of what our bodies can do. We have birthed babies and watched our bodies go through simultaneously horrifying and mind-blowing changes. And now these bodies will carry us through 13.1 miles and push the boundaries of what we previously thought we could do.
THAT is what this races means to me. The shiny little necklace in a little blue box? That's just a reminder we will wear over our hearts and remember everything it stands for.
