“This is a digital painting of my son,” explains Roberto Esquerra (@spiritus_ottavi), a Los Angeles-based hospital receptionist and self-taught artist who paints on his iPad. “When I create, I look at it as a different language that allows me to share my emotions, my energy.” In this picture of his son dancing, Roberto says, he sought to capture the relationship between the music’s rhythm, his son’s movement and the quiet beat of his own heart. “It doesn’t matter to me if I use crayons on a piece of cardboard,” Roberto says. “What matters is allowing myself to create and be open.” As someone who comes across inspiration at unexpected moments, Roberto finds a tablet's portability and versatility liberating. “The advantage is that you can create anywhere you are.” Photo by @spiritus_ottavi
