11 of 11 – To mark Veterans Day (11/11), TIME is sharing inspiring veterans stories every hour for 11 hours, some of which were submitted by readers on Instagram using #TIMEvets.
Russell Lee Klika, a retired Army photographer, volunteered for three tours in Iraq with the Tennessee Army National Guard, serving as a journalist for the Public Affairs Office, 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment and later as a Team Leader for the 133rd Mobile Public Affairs Detachment. He also spent a year covering 60 combat operations across Afghanistan. He took this photo of a Velcro board at United Services Organization (USO) at Dallas Fort Worth Airport, Texas. “Thanks to all that have and are still serving,” says Klika.
