Photo by @amivitale. Yesterday I tracked in to the bush just as the sun was setting to find a brand new 3 day old precious baby Southern White #Rhino. Her mom, Naserian, allowed us to get close enough to see her baby who was just a tiny but curious little pea. Congratulations to Lewa Wildlife Conservancy (@lewa_wildlife) and all the #rhinos. This year they have had a bumper crop of 15 new babies.
The #Lewa rangers are some of the most hard working people I've ever met. Most start work at the crack of dawn and don't go back to their camps until late in the evening. What is most inspiring about them is their passion for wildlife - as a result of their tremendous dedication, rhinos like Naserian are able to live and breed freely.
Lewa has been able to provide its black and white rhino populations a stable and secure habitat since its inception in 1983 as a rhino sanctuary. Today, it is home to 11% and 14% of #Kenya's black and white rhinos respectively, and is generally regarded as the first successful private rhino sanctuary in East #Africa.
