Police in Thailand laid down their helmets & riot gear in solidarity with protestors rallying against their corrupt prime minister. Imagine if in #Ferguson police showed up without weapons & armor, but with respect & compassion. Imagine if they said, "We support you. And we will help rebuild." The truth is, all this military-grade weaponry & riot gear is made for WAR, not peace. A gas mask and pepper-spray does not suggest cooperation or instill hope, it demands obedience and instills fear. This is a tool of repression, of oppression. This cannot encourage our best, but only expect the worst. For some communities, for people of color, particularly black people in America, this is often all the police force has ever represented. Oppression. If an entire community, country wide, is heartbroken and outraged... I mean seriously, who the hell are we to disagree? Do you really think you have enough answers to not be asking questions? #handsupdontshoot
