This day began with the "first milking of the mare". This is a special day in which a blessing is laid on the family & all of their livestock. The family we were with were a very big horse family. This is the first time colts are tethered. The mares are milked every few hours for two weeks. Their milk is used to make an alcohol called Airag.

Airag is fermented in sheepskin sacks like the ones behind these children.
